The Golf Shank – Golf Shanking And How To Cure It

The golf shank is no joke. Ask anyone who has suffered from this awful fault, including myself and they will confirm what I just said. Golf shanking brings misery and embarrassment to your golf game. If you do not know what the golf shank is, it is where the golf ball is struck by the hosel of the club, and the ball shoots off to the right. The hosel is the lowest point of the club shaft.

The shank in golf is an important fault to learn about, because you never know when it is going to affect your game. If you know what causes the golf shank, you can quickly correct it on the golf course.

So what causes the golf shank?

The shank in golf is often the result of tension in a golf shot, which causes the hands and arms to lock. Usually it happens on the short chip shots, where the need not to over hit the ball results in a slowing down of the club into impact. The body tries to push the club through the ball, which means the shoulders move ahead of the clubhead.

The golf shank cure.

Relax any tension in the hands and arms prior to making the golf shot, and do not stand too close to the ball. Practice swinging the club with the hands and arms. The best way to do this is to stand with the feet together. This is the correct way to swing the golf club, and will stop you using the body to hit the shot, rather then the hands and arms.

Even the best golfers shank sometimes!
