The Power Golf Swing – Learning A Powerful Golf Swing

The power golf swing can be acquired by generating as much club head speed as possible in the hitting zone. Its as simple as that. A powerful golf swing has this characteristic. You only have to watch Tiger Woods or any other top flight golf professional strike the golf ball to see the late hit, or golf swing release, in action. This is the source of the power golf swing.

How do you get yourself into the correct position for hitting powerful golf shots? Well, here is a golf swing drill I will share with you.

What I do, and this has helped me to learn a powerful golf swing, is the following.

1. I use a three quarter length backswing, which stops me from over swinging and gives me more control. It also helps prevent any tendency to slice my golf shots.

2. Practice, using any golf club, by hinging the wrists and holding the position at waist height. Freeze the position there for a moment, then, using the hands and arms only, I deliberately accelerate the club head through the ball and stop at waist height on the follow through.

By practicing this technique, I am doing two things.

1. I am training my mind to memorize this action so, in time, I won’t need to think about it. I will perform it automatically on the golf course.

2. I learn what it feels like to generate club head speed through the hitting zone.

Before I used this golf swing drill, I used to swing the club with an even tempo. Since I have been praticing this drill, I am definitely hitting my golf shots longer. I don’t know exactly how much distance it has added to my drives, but I am confident I am hitting them longer.

I encourage you to give this golf swing drill a try, and discover for yourself the power golf swing.

The Power Golf Swing – Adding Distance To Your Golf Shots

Do you find you are hitting your drives reasonably well during the course of your round of golf, but could do with adding distance to your shots? If you do, then read on. You might be surprised to learn that hitting longer golf drives are not the result of brute force, rather they are the result of a better golf swing tempo.

So what can the average golfer like you and me do to add power to the golf swing? If brute force alone won’t make the ball travel a long way, then there must be something else. I mentioned a moment ago, golf swing tempo, and here’s how to harness that to hit more powerful golf shots. Here’s what I do, and this has helped me hit the ball further.

Try this on the practice range, with any club of your choosing. As you address the ball, move the club head about two feet in front of the ball, that is to your left, with the wrists rolled over as they would be at the conclusion of a normal golf shot. Make this the starting position for your swing.

Freeze this position for a moment, then start your back swing. You will need to reverse the wrist hinge in doing so, then stop and hold the position when the wrists reach about waist height to your right side. With the wrists fully cocked, hit the golf ball.

As you do so you will feel the leverage of the hands and arms as you play through the shot. How much leverage should you use? That’s a matter of trial and error. Find the best level that you feel most comfortable with, and that suits your particular golf swing.

Golf Swing Tips – The Golf Swing Release

The concept of the golf swing release is a fascinating one, because if you can master it, you will hit longer golf shots. I can say this with confidence, because I have tried the golf swing drill I am going to share with you in this article, and it worked for me.

If you are a mid ranking handicap golfer, like me, or you just want to know how to hit the golf ball further with the driver and long irons, then this golf swing drill is for you. If you study the golf pros and how they hit the long irons and driver, what I call the distance clubs, you will probably notice they hit their golf shots with controlled power. What you see, as a spectator, is a smooth, flowing golf swing, which has an even tempo. And this is a characteristic of many top golfers.

The key to hitting long golf shots, is understanding and applying the golf swing release. What is it? It is simply maintaining the angle between the wrists and the club shaft at the top of the backswing, until well into the downswing. If you can imagine the club shaft and the left arm at a right angle from the top of the back swing until the wrists are about waist height.

From that position in the downswing, the wrists are unhinged, releasing the club head into the ball as fast as possible. This is where the power in the golf shot comes from.

Because this action takes place so fast in the golf swing, you have to learn the late hit in golf, then apply it in your normal golf swing on the course. The golf swing drill I recommend for the learning this action is as follows:

Grip a mid iron with two hands spaced several inches apart. Imagine gripping an axe with both hands and you will understand what I mean. Now swing the golf club to about shoulder height, and feel the right arm straighten as you swing through the impact zone. If you are doing this properly, you should feel the club head accelerating fast through impact. This is the action you need to teach yourself on the practice ground, so that you do not have to think about it on the golf course.

Keep practicing this technique, first with a mid iron, then with the other golf clubs, and when you think you have the swing speed about right, test it by hitting some golf balls for real.

When you get this to work effectively, and for me it did take quite a bit of practice, it can make a big difference to the quality and consistency of your golf shots. You are subconsciously training yourself to memorize how this hand action feels, and you then learn to apply this feeling to your next competitive golf game.

I hope this technique transforms your golf game as it has mine.
